Walking Tour by Hugo Mc Guiness – A Day in the Life of the Five Lamps

Thursday, 27th April 1916.

A Day in the life of the Five Lamps is a walking tour with a difference. Combining folk traditions, unpublished documents and diaries, with other material, this tour will uncover the relatively unknown story of a day during the 1916 Rising as it unfolded for those in the streets, houses, and laneways around the Five Lamps.

Starting with the killing of Jane Costello at about 8.00am it will continue to the death of Lieut. Charles Love Crockett at around midnight. The subject and location are specifically chosen with those with mobility issues in mind as the entire tour will take place around the actual triangle intersected by Killarney Street, Amiens Street, North Strand Road, and Portland Row. As each element of the story unfolds we will
readjust our viewpoint around the Five Lamps.

The duration will be about 50 minutes.

Those of limited mobility are especially welcome.
