An evening of acoustic ‘chamber-folk’ with Mary and The Pigeons and Caroline Moreau’s alluring French folk songs, sea-shanties and chanson masterpieces.

Mary and The Pigeons

Mary and The Pigeons’ music is described as “chamber-folk” and is inspired by the cellist/vocalist and songwriter Mary Barnecutt’s interests in modern folk music, poetry and an acoustic, minimalist string sound. She is joined by Max Greenwood on piano/keyboards, and a string trio of violin, viola and cello.

Mary spent a number of years working with artists like Vyvienne Long, Seti the First, Chequerboard, Julie Feeney, Declan de Barra, Preachers Son and Adrian Crowley before starting her own band.

Caroline Moreau

Since arriving in Ireland in 2002, Caroline Moreau has been wowing Irish audiences with her distinctive brand of Gallic charm, comic banter and heart-stopping vocal talent. Taking over Bewley’s Cabaret Theatre in a haze of heavily accented patter and superb showmanship, her debut show ‘Crime Passionnel’ was delivered with passionate conviction and became a sell-out.

Since then, she has performed as a solo artist, in a double-act with acclaimed gypsy violin virtuoso Oleg Ponomarev and with a range of internationally respected musicians in venues all across Ireland and in the UK, France & Spain.

Caroline will perform both old and new material including songs from her acclaimed second album ‘Amour Toujours etc…’ which she launched to a sold-out crowd in Whelans in October 2013. Caroline will showcase her gutsy take on traditional French folk songs as well as revisiting the masterpieces of chanson that she has so wonderfully made her own.

“Uniting heartbreak, obsession and fleeting nonchalance with a deliciously black humour” Irish Times

“What Caroline Moreau does is simultaneously meet our expectations and blow them to smithereens…… A tour de force of some of the darkest, Frenchest tunes in history. Serge Gainsbourg, Jacques Brel and of course, The Little Sparrow Edith Piaf, take the stage, channelled via Moreau, telling their tales of soulless employment and disappearing lovers with a vibrancy that is thrilling. Moreau embodies the voice of each song, with her body and soul she becomes the entire world of the song, and proves herself to be a convincing actress in the process”  Irish Independent

“elements of instrumental virtuosity and theatrically-inspired vocalising merged to produce a concert of warmth, passion, humour & musical excellence” Clare People
