Flautist Julie Maisel at the Custom House
Tuesday 24th April, 7.00-8.30 pm, Custom House
Listen to the melodic flute of Julie Maisel and her students while you visit the Custom House! Designed by James Gandon this is an exquisite Georgian building and was the cause of much rioting at the time of its construction as it changed the location of much of the cities trading. The building was completed in 1791, only to be burned down by the IRA in 1921. The building has been beautifully restored by the Office of Public Works Dr. Julie Maisel has participated in masterclasses with Paula Robison, Louise Moyse, and William Bennett, and has worked privately with Charles Delaney, Patricia George and Albert Tipton. She currently teaches flute in the Conservatory of Music and Drama at the Dublin Institute of Technology, at Leeson Park School of Music, and maintains a private studio in Chapelizod. Dr. Maisel is a member of "Kid's Classics", a chamber ensemble which performs in all the Children's Hospitals in Dublin every month and is actively involved with the Learn and Explore Programme through the National Concert Hall. As a freelance musician, Maisel has performed with the National Symphony Orchestra, the Pro Arte Orchestra, the Opera Theatre Company, the Irish Film Orchestra, the Irish Baroque Orchestra, and various groups throughout the area. She also adjudicates the "Interschools Music Festival" at Wesley College, and for the last three years has been an invaluable guest of the Five Lamps Arts Festival.
